Private Lessons

The Alexander Technique is typically taught through a series of private lessons.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A LESSON?

We all come with a predetermined set of habitual norms which are shortcuts to an end result- a habit. We are not paying attention to how it happens. Often this leads to us using way too much effort even in the simplest activities. Through the hands on guidance of a teacher we learn how to prevent predetermined effort and allow our natural balance to assert itself.

In a lesson we learn to pay attention to how we perform an activity and become an active participant in the process. Over a course of lessons we learn to inhibit the habit that prevents optimal poise, balance and ease. We can then apply these principles to all areas of your life. The best way to discover what the Technique is and how it works is to experience it for ourselves.

HAVING LESSONS

In an Alexander Technique lesson, your teacher instructs you — with verbal and manual cues — to approach movement differently. Loose clothing is recommended.

You will learn how to:

You are an active participant: your eyes are open and conversation takes place.

What you learn applies to all activities in your life, but you are welcome to work with your teacher on particular activities of interest such as lifting and carrying, computer work, public speaking, your favourite sport or even sleeping position.

BOOKING A LESSON

We have a group of teachers who live in different areas around London and the world.

We suggest you choose a teacher that is not too far away.

In the beginning it is important to have private lessons as often as possible.  (2-3 times per week).

To help people afford this, the price of the private lesson has to be relevant to each individual’s circumstances.
